The first song Amana Melome’ ever recorded is becoming a centrepiece of her next release. “Space Age Mama Jama,” originally included on her debut album Indigo Red!, returns as “Space Age Mama Jama Recalibrated,” the lead single from Recalibrated The Remixes. Due on 25 September 2026, the album brings her Recalibration journey to a celebratory conclusion.
To revisit the track, Melome’ returned to Saverio ‘Sage’ Principini, the producer who worked on its original recording more than ten years ago. The new arrangement also features contributions from Deron Johnson, a pianist known for touring with artists including Miles Davis and Stanley Clarke. Two versions close the album: the Johnson and Principini remake, followed by Principini’s Fire Remix.
For Melome’, returning to the song is about recognising how much she has changed. She describes herself as now embodying the fierce, playful and powerful character she imagined when she first wrote it. Her explanation is direct: “Same song, totally different ME!” That sense of renewed confidence also informs the wider record, which celebrates the lessons absorbed through a process of personal recalibration.
Elsewhere, the album revisits “SO DONE!,” “Con C.ALMA” and “Recalibration” with an international group of collaborators. Cee Elassaad and Joel Holmes reinterpret “SO DONE,” while Somos Animales and Eli Anai offer separate versions of “Con C.ALMA.” Opolopo, GodBlessComputers and Principini each take on “Recalibration.” Across the collection, the music draws on dub reggae, funk and disco, jazz-house, and soulful and deep house.
The project arrives as Melome’ reconnects with her creative identity after taking time away from her musical career to focus on motherhood. With her daughter now older, she has found more freedom to return to music. Revisiting her earliest recording gives that return a tangible connection to her beginnings, while her own words make clear the present-day perspective behind it: “Here I am RECALIBRATED!”
